Ingram, Texas cop enrolled town in ICE 287(g) deportation program
NEW: Ingram, Texas, was just rebuilding from a devastating flood when its tiny police department enrolled in ICE’s 287(g) deportation program. Within a year, cops would hand over the equivalent of 10% of the town. with @nytimes.com
Infuriating that the cop sees *himself* as the victim in all this. I hope he never has a moments peace and all his food gets spit in.
All the things I want to say would get me a visit from some lettered agency
It's not as if history didn't warn us what the sick fuckos would do if they got into power.
So basically this piece of shit couldn’t cut it at any job other than being a cop. He was let go from the Sheriff’s office for being a liar and failed in his marriage so he decides to take it out on hard working people just trying to build a life? Pretty much sums up MAGA trash.
Got halfway though this article. Too mad to continue. These complicit actors must be held accountable.
Cops like him are the true enemy within. They see their neighbors as enemies instead of human beings. They don’t serve the public they serve their own ego, they serve for the power trip
I don't want to get banned for saying what should be said about these people
"If I say what I'm really thinking, I'll be banned from this website and put on an alphabet agency list", Part 467.
This guy must really be a believer in Elon Musk's argument that having empathy is a sign of weakness
WHAT A TRAVESTY to have your small town police force sign up as ICE!
"Alexander says he didn’t come back to Ingram to help deport his neighbors... he just ended up making it part of his job. Alexander and Ingram’s other patrol officer had delivered at least 70 people to immigration agents. Within a year, they would hand over the equivalent of 10% of Ingram to ICE."
"Today more than 1,900 agencies in at least 30 states have signed up for ICE’s task force model, with more than 29,000 deputized officers. With their help, ICE recently hit a record of immigration arrests, totaling more than 50,000 in August."
We need never wonder again how so many Germans could have turned on their neighbors and willingly aided and abetted the Nazi regime. This guy would have merrily rounded up Anne Frank.
NYT magazine will not allow comments so I comment here. Alexander gets the opportunity to feel bad. The voters in Ingram get to say the wanted to go after the “bad” guys. The Martinez family will never get their lives back. There will never be justice for what we are doing.
I hate these people so much. “This is hurting me now, I didn’t vote for you to hurt ME.”
At least THIS guy isn't hiding behind a mask. That counts for five years off an eventual sentencing in The Hague, in my opinion. Give him ninety-five years instead of a hundred.
Judas betrayed one guy and has been Satan's chew toy ever since idk what god is gonna do with this pig.
Ten percent of an entire town, turned in and rounded up by their own neighbors.
Great reporting, and a great portrait of an American Gestapo agent and how he lives with himself
This is an American 287g participant's version of shooting and crying. I don't think we should be listening to how torn these people are about all of this. They were given a gun, the badge and the public trust and this is what they have done regardless of their inner thoughts.
“Although I said I didn’t wanna do it I went ahead & did it & now imma put my name in the headlines so everybody in town knows who I am & what I voluntarily chose to do to my neighbors & their families & will do to my own friends & family as well because my job’s important & they're not”
This article is written in such a way to make you empathetic towards an officer who willingly rounded up dozens of his neighbors and handed them over to ICE, because he was getting 50% more pay for doing so. Fuck this guy. I feel nothing for him.
Devastating and a very important read, versions of this happened 50,000 times in August. Abolish ICE.
What I found most disconcerting about the article was how the cop repeatedly has moments of self reflection struggling with his actions but then quickly finds reasons to justify it and convince himself he's still a good man. Echos of citizen collaborators in Nazi Germany or genocide era Rwanda.
This man should be more well known in his community.
This is not just one asshole. This is the culture of policing. We need to rip it out and start over.
Yeah…it might be unpopular, but idk what to do with these people other than stripping them of the ability to work in law enforcement, prisons, and education. It’s either that or re-education.
Trump has helped us clearly see the absolute worst of humanity. Evil people are showing who they truly are. Working to deport your neighbors is despicable. #DV1 #ProudBlue #Voices4Victory #USDemocracy www.propublica.org/article/depo...
"Officer Jaron Alexander blamed the Facebook groups. They had created a climate of “unreasonable fear” in Ingram."
incarcerate him for crimes against humanity!
Pigs. Always have been always will be.
287(g) is SOP in Texas towns & cities. Our ICE agents are disappwaring people in blue states while our cops disappear our neighbors.
Make him famously uncomfortable to the point of having to leave his home town. See how he likes it. Such scum😡
So he ducked up his life and his job then joined ICE to take out his anger and frustration on others. What an absolute sick motherfucker.
The depravity of so many Americans is what led to Trump. He kicked over a rock and these ugly people crawled out. www.propublica.org/article/depo...
Excellent article detailing how ordinary people justify their inhumane actions.
Alll while his supporters will accuse others of tearing families apart
Once they let you know who they really are you can never unsee it, & never forgive it. You’ve witnessed evil.
