Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado arrived in Caracas Sunday night, returning after nearly a year in exile. Her daylong journey through five states drew crowds of supporters who had gathered since the afternoon as her caravan passed the toll plaza into the capital. Machado emerged through the sunroof of an SUV and waved to throngs at the border of Caracas, capping the procession into the city. Her homecoming, and her status as a Nobel laureate, renewed hopes among observers for a possible shift back toward democratic processes in Venezuela.
