Andy Burnham says he wants Britain to rejoin the EU
“Andy Burnham admitted he is considering allowing freedom of movement… …as pro-EU groups warn Brexit has left a black hole of up to £240bn in economic growth”
i get the optimism, i really do, but he isn't DOING anything other than considering & consulting & wondering & stringing us along: i fear we're in for two years of this until it's his ONLY election / manifesto item... he's talking, but he's not doing!!!
How do we convince Brexiteers who are still in denial about the harm Brexit has done to the UK to see sense? It's an almost impossible ask but it's a starting point.
Angela Rayner needs EU workers to build houses for her ambitious housebuilding programme. She's not daft!
I'm with him, I believe there should be freedom of movement to and from Manchester and even Liverpool come to that.
The disappointment in EU fanboys when Burnham does none of the things they think is happening will be off the charts haha I can't wait
Nothing will be determined on this against the popular will But that does not prevent politicians and others attempting to change what that popular will allows...
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is right. One estimate is of a long term hit of 4%. Another says it’s already been 6-8%. By almost every economic and financial measure Brexit has been disastrous for the UK youtu.be/DQRzdz-7R8U?...
And there you have it. Make Farage prime minister and he'll parrot the same crap Trump comes out with, trying to convince the country the grass is blue and the sky is green.
The trouble is that the cretinous morons who follow Farage just believe him. They are incapable & unwilling to, "do their own research" (which I now know is just code for 'someone told me on Facebook'!).
& when flag-shagging is in danger of turning into a national sport one has to worry about the cultural impact too
Andy Burnham tells Good Morning Britain ”We’re way away” from rejoining the EU and he is not proposing rejoining within this Parliament. But Burnham says there has been a “harder Brexit” than the Leave referendum campaign promised. “I think we can make it better”.
“In my lifetime I would like to see [Britain rejoin the EU]” says Burnham, but he says “I am not going to move ahead of the British people” on the issue.
UK shot itself in both feet by leaving EU. Good that Burnham is at least prepared to talk about getting some medical attention for the wounds. We can't ever undo the damage but we can at least mitigate it.
It would be helpful if people pointed out that Leave promised sixteen contradictory things.
There is a lot of negotiation to take place before rejoining can happen. It’s not an à la carte menu for GB.
🤩 This is a significant moment. Burnham says openly that Brexit has weakened 🇬🇧 economy, failed to deliver promised control over immigration and produced a harder Brexit than many people were led to expect in 2016. On rejoin EU: “I would like to see that happen in my lifetime.” And next 👇 🧵
👉 He says the British public must be the bosses. 👍 2016 asked whether Britain should leave the EU. It did NOT ask whether we should leave the Single Market, end freedom of movement, leave the customs union, or adopt the hardest possible version of Brexit. Those choices came later.
Not your lifetime Andy! Next five years.
ITV's Good Morning Britain ask Andy Burnham if he's planning an early election: "no, no I've ruled that out"
Yes, but *are* you planning an an early election? Please answer the question! It says in the Daily Mail and the Sun that you are.
Burnham repeats his comments that he'd like to see the UK back in the EU in "my lifetime" but rejects Richard Madeley's suggestion he sees himself as a "man of destiny" who wants to return the UK to the bloc "by hook or by crook"
