A Mitchell Research poll for CBS Detroit shows Democrat Abdul El-Sayed leading Republican Mike Rogers 51 percent to 44 percent among likely Michigan voters in the Nov. 3 U.S. Senate race. The late October survey of 636 likely voters was conducted Oct. 26-27, used online panels and randomly selected cell phone links, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points at roughly 95 percent confidence. Three percent of respondents were undecided and third-party candidates each drew 1 percent or less. The firm found El-Sayed has consolidated 94 percent of Democrats while Rogers has consolidated 91 percent of Republicans, and independents preferred El-Sayed 52 percent to 38 percent. The poll shows rising early participation with 28 percent saying they had already voted or were voting absentee versus 11 percent in early October. The survey follows two televised debates on Oct. 8 and Oct. 21 and comes as the open seat was created when Sen. Gary Peters announced he would step down at the end of his term.
