The 55th New York City Marathon is underway, sending nearly 60,000 competitors from Staten Island through all five boroughs to finish in Central Park. The race began at 8 a.m. with wheelchair and elite starters on a sunny day expected to peak near 60 degrees, and the last wave left Staten Island at 11:30 a.m. For the first time since 2011 the course is altered in the Bronx, where runners will take five turns instead of the usual seven. Marcel Hug of Switzerland won the men’s wheelchair division in 1 hour 28 minutes 14 seconds, one second ahead of Daniel Romanchuk, and Catherine Debrunner of Switzerland won the women’s wheelchair race by more than eight minutes. Tracy Morgan is this year’s grand marshal and several celebrities, including Jennifer Connelly and former N.F.L. players, are running. The race is broadcast on WABC-TV Channel 7 in New York, on ESPN2 nationally, on ESPN3 in Spanish, and live tracking is available via the New York Road Runners app and N.Y.R.R. website.
