Juan Atkins dies aged 64, Detroit techno pioneer
Juan Atkins, a trailblazing Detroit producer who co-founded techno music, has died at 64
RIP but this blows my mind. “Juan what did you do with your life?” “Invented techno with buddy.” I got work to do.
RIP Juan Atkins 💔 Your work will live in perpetuity!
NOOOOOO Detroit is not having a very good day. Godspeed ya all 💕❤️
Do not like! RIP, Juan.
it really feels like we are losing the living soul of music this year. my hope is people re-prioritize authenticity because we can’t rely on the living examples of artistry forever
I NEED THE GRIM REAPER TO EITHER CHILL OR CHOOSE DIFFERENT TARGETS!!!
Rest in peace to a goat 🙏 Definitely one of the main people that influences my current style and taste. Detroit stays on top <3 Might do a set in tribute
this is the one that punched me directly in the chest
Juan Atkins is among the stars. #RestInPower
Oh, man. I saw Mr. Atkins perform at some giant dumb nightclub in Chicago circa 1999 - it was great! Like a 3-hour thing that started out real "housy" and got more and more punishing and minimal as it progressed. RIP.
Que la terre te soit légère, Juan www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOwp...
Ah fuck that’s such sad news. One of a handful of people who’ve effectively invented a new style of music. RIP Juan Atkins
Oof RIP Juan Atkins, that’s too young. All techno sounded like the future but Model 500 and Cybotron‘s music was the stuff that sounded most like science fiction, thrill-powered in the truest sense youtu.be/So0kzVXGB2E?...
We used to play a Cybotron compilation a lot when I worked in the bookshop, one of our less punter-scaring picks, techno can be kind of self-serious but I loved this for how unashamedly goofy it was youtu.be/aOBUqCIXXWY?...
This was glued into my Walkman back in the day. RIP youtu.be/U3NfI9jbUGI?...
Aw. That's sad. 2026 is seeing a lot of people ho too soon.
Awful, awful news. Just in the midst of writing a piece about how the music that he (and Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson) originated changed my life so have been thinking about him and listening to his music a great deal recently.
Hands up in the air for Juan Atkins
