Seattle Kraken trade Shane Wright to Nashville Predators

sportsNov 1, 202628120

The Seattle Kraken traded 22-year-old center Shane Wright to the Nashville Predators in a one-for-one swap for winger Matthew Wood, sources say. Wright has three goals and four points in 14 games this season and was the No. 4 pick in the 2022 draft; he scored 19 goals and 44 points in 2024-25 but fell to 12 goals and 27 points last season. Wright is in the final year of his entry-level contract with a base salary of $886,666 and can become a restricted free agent in summer 2027. Wood was the No. 15 pick in 2023, posted 17 goals and 30 points in 2025-26, and has one goal and three points in 14 games this season. The teams framed the deal as a swap of recent first-round picks who need a fresh start: Seattle betting Wood’s higher-end skill and youth while Nashville adds center depth. Seattle coach and roster context suggests the Kraken felt less need for Wright’s positional value if they are not satisfied with Berkly Catton down the middle.
