Daylight Saving Time ends, clocks fall back

newsNov 1, 2026561,427

Daylight Saving Time ended today as clocks moved back one hour at 2:00 a.m. local time to 1:00 a.m., causing the one o'clock hour to run twice. The shift moves sunrise and sunset one hour earlier, producing darker evenings and reported sleep disruptions for people and pets. Some jurisdictions do not observe the change, including Hawaii and most of Arizona except the Navajo Nation. The twice-yearly clock adjustments are a modern hassle with deep precedents in calendar reform: in 1752 the British Parliament's Calendar (New Style) Act 1750 dropped 11 days, making Sept. 2 immediately followed by Sept. 14 across the British Empire. Expect earlier nightfall to persist through the standard-time months until clocks return to Daylight Saving Time in spring.
