Decision Desk HQ projects Republican Sen. Ashley Moody to win a full term, narrowly defeating Democratic state Rep. Angie Nixon. Moody led Nixon by 0.7 percentage points with 84.3 percent of the vote reported as of 8:03 p.m. EST Tuesday, according to DDHQ. The Cook Political Report had rated the race as solidly favoring Republicans. Moody was appointed to the Senate last year by Gov. Ron DeSantis when Marco Rubio joined President Trump’s Cabinet. Nixon accused Moody of approving mishandling of taxpayer funds tied to the charity Hope Florida and demanded Moody be “locked up and punished in jail.” A sealed grand jury report obtained by CBS News Miami said Moody was reportedly aware of the plan to divert the payment and authorized her former chief deputy attorney general, John Guard, to sign the settlement. Moody campaigned on backing Trump’s immigration agenda, “standing up for the rule of law,” and framed the choice as “safety and chaos” and “Freedom vs. Socialism,” and she received an endorsement from Trump.
