politicsNov 4, 202619142,229

Democratic state Representative Gina Hinojosa defeated three-term Republican incumbent Greg Abbott to win the Texas governorship, ending 32 years of Republican control of the office. Abbott called Hinojosa to concede, a call reported by Hinojosa’s campaign and news outlets. Hinojosa will serve a four-year term as governor and becomes the first Latina governor in Texas history. Democrats also captured the state’s other top offices on the same night, winning all five statewide positions including the U.S. Senate and lieutenant governor posts. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum celebrated Hinojosa’s victory on November 4, highlighting the win as recognition of the Mexican American community.

So stoked about all the Women in Government FIRSTS that I stayed up late to make a slideshow for my first period all-girls school class — and messed up my Wordle streak. Totally worth it 💪

Getting to see the beautifully diverse electorate in my neighborhood while I was working the polls yesterday made me so happy, and getting to see these historic firsts today is so joyful. This is the world I live in, this is the world I believe in. White supremacists can get bent.

The Badness (pejorative)4

Said it before and I’ll say it again:

¿Puedo decir una cosa sin que se me salte a la yugular la gente? Que buen país seria EEUU, si no tuviese tanto miedo al socialismo (aunque lo vayan perdiendo poco a poco).

A chud asked me on Nextdoor why this made me so happy even though I’m white, I was like “white people are assholes dog” and I laughed and laughed.

Great little thread about what happened with our neighbours to the south last night... a group of elected officials that LOOKS like the American people with voters giving a huge middle finger to racism and bigotry. You love to see it. Now work hard, Democrats. Impeach like mad! Fix things.

Wow! Congratulations to Gina Hinojosa! 😘 Hinojosa will be the next governor of Texas. She is the first Latina governor in Texas history and the third Latina governor in U.S. history. #Historic

A color photograph of Gina Hinojosa, the historic Democratic politician elected as the first Latina Governor of Texas. Captured from the chest up, she faces the camera directly with a poised, centered pose. She has a warm, subtle smile and a confident, approachable expression. Her long, wavy brunette hair is parted down the middle and flows gently past her shoulders, framing her face. She is dressed in a vibrant, royal blue button-down shirt featuring double chest pockets with buttons. The setting is outdoors during the golden hour, with soft, warm sunlight illuminating the scene from behind. The background shows a beautifully blurred park or streetscape with warm bokeh lights and a hint of a metallic structure or trash bin on the left. The composition is clean and focused entirely on her, establishing a mood of optimism, leadership, and historic significance as a trailblazer in Texas politics.
