GOP Rep. Max Miller loses Ohio seat after abuse allegations

Democrat Brian Poindexter defeated Republican Rep. Max Miller, NBC News projects, and Miller conceded the race. Poindexter, an ironworker and Brook Park City Council member, flipped a district that Donald Trump would have won by 11 points in 2024 after Democrats poured millions into the contest. The campaign was dominated by domestic abuse allegations from Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, who has accused Miller of holding a gun to her head, throwing hot water on her, and throwing her against a wall; Miller has vehemently denied those claims. Miller released documents and audio recordings and defended himself in a lengthy social media livestream, saying, "If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?" Moreno’s spokesperson called Miller’s denial a lie, and her father, Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, publicly said Miller should not serve in the House. Poindexter attracted unexpected national backers, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, as Democrats made the race competitive on a late timeline. The loss flips a reliably Republican seat into Democratic hands and ends Miller’s two-term tenure in Congress.
