Eileen Laubacher appears to unseat Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s 4th District

With roughly 78 percent of ballots tallied, Democrat Eileen Laubacher leads Republican incumbent Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District by about 5,412 votes, 49.35 percent to 47.67 percent, according to live returns. The Associated Press has not called the race. Local officials say Boebert would need to win 51.2 percent of the remaining ballots to overtake Laubacher, and roughly 29,700 votes remain uncounted in one update. Late returns from Douglas County narrowed Laubacher’s margin by about 60 votes; analysts in the returns note Boebert performed roughly 10 points better with those late Douglas County voters than with earlier Douglas County ballots yet still trailed other Republicans in that batch by about 10 points. If current trends hold, the Democratic challenger appears poised to flip a district that has been reliably Republican, potentially changing the partisan balance of Colorado’s delegation pending final counts and any provisional or outstanding ballots.
