RTÉ's Donnybrook television and radio campus was evacuated after an email bomb threat was received at 8.33am, director general Kevin Bakhurst said; he received the message at 8.40am and authorised the evacuation while gardaí were alerted. Gardaí with sniffer dogs are searching the RTÉ buildings and have liaised with other Irish media organisations after similar threatening correspondence prompted short evacuations at Mediahuis and Independent News and advisory measures for other outlets. RTÉ moved to pre-recorded programmes as a precaution, although Today with David McCullagh on Radio 1 stayed on air from the broadcaster's roadcaster, and Mr Bakhurst warned staff may be unable to re-enter the campus for a few hours. Virgin Media also received the threat but did not evacuate and continues to broadcast. Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the threats affecting RTÉ and other outlets in Ireland and Britain are being treated seriously, with gardaí and the Defence Forces working to identify who is responsible. The notices are said to be linked to a series of hoax bomb threats that disrupted flights across Europe in recent days, and An Garda Síochána said the threats will be investigated.
