Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) was discharged from The Johns Hopkins Hospital after suffering a small hemorrhagic stroke, a small bleed in the thalamus, and will miss the next several weeks of Senate votes while he recovers. Murphy said he first felt something wrong last Saturday, experienced numbness in his arm while at his son’s hockey game, called 9-1-1 and was initially treated at a local hospital before transfer to Johns Hopkins. Dr. Jose Suarez, chief of neurosciences critical care at Johns Hopkins, confirmed the diagnosis, said Murphy has shown tremendous progress and expects a full recovery following rehabilitation. Murphy said he will spend the next several weeks at a rehabilitation center, will stay engaged remotely with his team and colleagues, and that his staff will continue carrying out legislative priorities and constituent services. The 53-year-old senator has represented Connecticut in the U.S. Senate since 2013 and thanked the doctors and staff at Johns Hopkins for their care.
