Liberal Tatiana Auguste wins Terrebonne by-election

Tatiana Auguste defeated Bloc Quebecois candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné 22,445 to 21,714 in the Terrebonne by-election on April 13, 2026. The Liberals also won the other two federal by-elections that night, bringing their caucus to 174 seats in the House of Commons. That total is two above the 172-seat threshold for a majority, giving Prime Minister Mark Carney a majority government. With 174 MPs, the government can pass budgets and confidence motions without relying on support from other parties.
