London Marathon 2027 ballot opens for one week

The TCS London Marathon has opened its individual ballot for the 2027 race, accepting applications until 1 May at 4 PM BST. Applicants can enter the individual ballot and choose to run for a charity such as SpecialEffect; other routes into the race include time qualifiers, club entries and organised charity or partner places. Essex runner Apryl Hammett is targeting a Triple Crown by completing 300 marathons across road, trail and ultra categories, and former England captain Tony Adams, aged 60 and 30 years sober, will also run. The ballot matters because it is the principal public route to secure a place in one of the six World Marathon Majors and to support charities or personal milestones.

Nothing blows my mind more thoroughly than knowing that there's a ballot to enter the London Marathon, as it's always oversubscribed. I always thought marathons were like school sports days and you just crossed your fingers and prayed you wouldn't be drafted for the long running.

But they say "pay for an extra entry and double your chances!" but how can that be, if there's not a finite limit on who can enter the ballot? Confused.🫤
