London Marathon 2027 ballot opens for one week
The TCS London Marathon individual public ballot opened this weekend and stays open until 1 May for places in the 2027 race. Runners must enter the public ballot on the official race website to seek general entry, charity places or elite selection. Hellen Obiri will make her London debut after winning the New York Marathon and is targeting a world-class performance; Essex runner Apryl Hammett aims to complete a 300-marathon Triple Crown and Tony Adams will run aged 60 after 30 years sober. The ballot is the main route for most runners to secure a place and it will determine which charity entrants and high-profile debuts shape the 2027 field, so prospective runners should apply before 1 May.
@kityates.bsky.social I've a question for you about the London marathon ballot. Entry numbers aren't fixed — you can apply up until the deadline. But they say "pay for an extra entry and double your chances!" but how can that be, if there's not a finite limit on who can enter the ballot? Confused.🫤
Because there will be a fixed number by the time they draw the entries from the ballot. So if you have 2 entries you chance will go from 1\n to 2\n even if you don't yet know what n is going to be at the time you enter.
I am prepared to be called RFK Jr if I've misunderstood this. But it's all moot for me anyway as their servers are overloaded and my one sad entry isn't processing.
