Damon Jones pleads guilty in NBA gambling probe

sportsApr 28, 202625205

Former NBA player and assistant coach Damon Jones pleaded guilty Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court to wire fraud for selling inside information to gamblers. He became the first person to enter a guilty plea in a federal sweep that has produced more than 30 arrests. Prosecutors said Jones texted co-conspirators, "Get a big bet on Milwaukee tonight before the information is out," and disclosed that Lakers star LeBron James would not play in a 2023 game. His guilty plea gives prosecutors a direct admission and evidence to use against other defendants and heightens scrutiny of gambling-related corruption in professional basketball.
