NCAA to expand men's and women's tournaments to 76 teams

The NCAA has begun final steps to expand both the men's and women's Division I basketball tournaments from 68 to 76 teams, ESPN reports. The change adds eight teams to each field, is expected to introduce additional play-in games or bracket adjustments, and implementation is slated to begin in 2027. The expansion creates more bids for smaller conferences and at-large contenders and will reshape seeding, scheduling and early-round venues.

The unintended (and unexpected for coaches) will be an absolute bloodbath of firings when teams still don't make a 76 team NCAA Basketball Tournament. Except for Pitt, which will give Capel another year to go brick by brick. While no one asks why there is no mortar.
