Lib Dems propose working with 'like-minded' parties at Birmingham Council
The Liberal Democrats invited like-minded parties and independents to form a governing pact on Birmingham City Council after local elections left the council with no overall control. The proposal would pool Lib Dem councillors with centre-left colleagues to agree council leadership, committee allocations, and a shared policy programme. If Labour, the Greens and local independents join the pact, it would keep the Conservatives and Reform out of power and shape decisions on housing, transport and social services in Birmingham.
Not to excuse this, & it’s a while since I presented anything on the BBC, but I do recall noting an almost subconscious desire to disprove bogus allegations of bias by being particularly tough on Labour & Lib Dems (Ed Davey once complained!) This is another victory for right wing media gaslighting.
Noted that Laura and Richard agreed that Nigel accepted his £5 million gift while he wasn't a politician. Being an honorary president of a political party is not being involved in politics nowadays apparently.
Victoria Derbyshire is so so better than LK, cutting through the BS and holding political figures to account. I am surprised the BBC lets her work for them, perhaps she hasn’t been sent the bias memo yet, or maybe she just chose to ignored it.
Have you ever seen BBC interviewing John Swinney? The man literally can’t get a word in edge ways!
Since Boris Johnson decided to put a right wing team in charge at the BBC the standards of journalism has declined and their right wing bias has become very noticeable.
Well Government could sort this out - why haven’t they ? They have 165 working majority.
I'd love to hear Phillipson smile and say, "Oh do shut up, Laura, and let me answer the question, I can't get a word in edgeways here!". I know it goes against "media-training", but sometimes you need to get to get your elbows out.
That's an interruption every 18 seconds! Assuming Kuenssberg then speaks for 10 seconds, then Phillipson was given an average of 8 seconds each time before being interrupted. How can she get anything across fairly?
For such a large and powerful organisation, it doesn't have much bottle. Right wing media saying BBC not right wing enough .... "They would say that, wouldn't they" is a simple enough response.
The fake benefit of doubt is unhelpful in analysing the situation. The BBC have a right-wing bias since forever (especially since the Cameron era). And "How about that they did a piece on a left-wing issue 5 years ago" is not a counterargument...
That is one thing that annoys me intensely with the BBC! I am trying to listen to the person's answer and the interviewer keeps interrupting and shouting over them! So rude!
Yes but be ‘fair’James, these forensic, intrepid journalists are terrified Farage or Tice might just stop the interview, see Beth Rigby,Trevor Philips , Sophy Ridge and poor Lewis Goodhall couldn’t even get them on his show today. So best keep haranguing the good guys ‘‘tis easier
I was surprised to see the Express reporting on BBC bias yesterday - not their usual 'woke lefty defund the BBC' thing but actually anti-Labour bias! Whatever next? A 'Fund the BBC' campaign?
Strange they never try to counter their right wing bias by being harder on Reform or Tories
Response following TESS's line: WILL McAVOY: Bias towards fairness means that if the entire congressional Republican caucus were to walk in to the House and propose a resolution stating that the Earth was flat, the Times would lead with "Democrats and Republicans Can't Agree on Shape of Earth."
BBC bias is totally out in the open now, they don’t even bother to try to pretend that it doesn’t exist - listen to #r4today or #wato any day of the week for perfect examples… 🙄😒
Question Time is the worst for biased interruptions.
Lewis Goodall spells it out.
Quite simply, Labour must follow the example of Stanley Baldwin back in 1931 and take on the biased media.
I can’t believe the media are just letting Farage get away with that £5m. If that was Starmer he wouldn’t be allowed to talk about anything else.
The BBC Politics team Is not fit for purpose They only seem to help promote the right wing This is just more evidence of how unsuitable Kunnesburg is
Remind me, or more importantly her, what Lisa Nandy's job is.
Laura “impartial my bum” Keunnsberg again proving impartiality at the BBC is a myth 🤔
Laura K and Chris M hate Labour and Greens It's not good to watch
Can't watch LK. Wonder what the stats are on Victoria Derbyshire - she seems more even handed.
The bias is blatant. #DeradicaliseTheBBC
Says it all Dreadful and obvious bias
