Guardian reveals ICE Delaney Hall dress code bars Crocs and baby onesies
The Guardian documents that ICE's Delaney Hall detention center in Newark, New Jersey enforces a changing dress code that explicitly bans Crocs and baby onesies, and visitors say guards have used those rules to deny family entry. Visitors and volunteers say guards rejected more than a dozen people on one Tuesday, and 10-year-old Nayeli Gomez fainted after being turned away; volunteers set up bins of borrowed clothing outside the facility to help families comply. The dress restrictions come amid an ongoing detainee hunger and labor strike and widespread protests, and advocates say the rules are blocking critical family contact and worsening detainees' physical and emotional distress.
"Activists in masks waited with plastic bins, each packed to the brim with clothes for visitors to borrow: shirts, pants and shoes in a spectrum of sizes, from baby-sized onesies to plus-sized sweatpants. Guards rejected more than a dozen visitors for alleged dress code violations on that Tuesday."
"Delaney Hall rejected them because Gabriela’s four-year-old daughter was in leggings. When Gabriela would ask why their clothes weren’t allowed, guards said they were too “provocative”, she said. “How is that provocative if she’s only four years old?” said Gabriela, referring to her daughter."
If the guards are finding toddlers provocative, then maybe they shouldn't hire pedophiles as guards.
The only person who sees a baby in a onesie and thinks it’s provocative is someone who needs to be beaten with hammers
