B-52 Stratofortress crashes after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base

newsJun 15, 2026261,961

A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California's Mojave Desert at about 11:20 a.m., the base said. Emergency crews rushed to the south end of the base after residents reported a tall plume of black smoke and fire, and the base said the situation is ongoing. The base has not confirmed the crew's condition. Investigators will examine the cause, a high-stakes probe because Edwards is a major Air Force test base that supports long-range B-52 operations and safety protocols.

Has Hegseth blamed California yet?

Truth Social(ist)123

In a just world, it would have been Air Force One.

Dig86

The number of aircraft, both military and civilian, that have crashed under this administration is truly mind boggling.

singerindy.bsky.social67

#Hegseth is responsible for multiple military aircraft crashes and falling into the ocean from battleships. Incompetence.

Dale Paus50

WTF... a B-52 is a *big* plane. How is it there is no visible wreckage??

Fight like Michael Collins32

OMG - I used to be a B-52 crew chief a lifetime ago… it used to blow me away that the planes were older than I was even back then in the 80s! Can’t imagine what the maintenance crew on that plane is going through right now… this was always my greatest fear. Kept me on my toes. Condolences to all.

Philo of Alexan29

Today is a bad day for bombers

Ron Dorland ©️🇺🇸🇺🇦28

Another case of equipment inside not latched and tied down securely, just like the one at Bagrum in Afghanistan? B-52s don't just crash.

Artesian Mystic26

Good lord there’s nothing left. 💔

experimental22.bsky.social24

My thoughts are with the pilots & crew. I hope that they are safe.

Tzarina24

Another couple of million dollar equipment lost/ destroyed by Hegseth. Someone needs to explain to the head of the dept. of war that they are suppose to destroy the enemies equipment, not our own.

JackStraw7121

I’m guessing this is Biden’s fault?

EARNED MY SPURS: UNABLE TO CURB MY CUSSING 🐎21

Will trump tell the families of the dead to (1) 'get used to it' or (2) 'they knew what they signed up for'?

Stace RN Resists 📎💙 OR18

Noooo 💔 Sending much love and prayers to the families of those affected by this horrific tragedy.

Donati15

Kegseth will blame Obama, Biden, Newsom, California & immigrants

Christina H12

I was at elementary school near Mather AFB in Sacramento in the early 80's when a B-52 went down very near us-will never forget the black smoke that turned day to night. It looked like the end of days. Very sad for those pilots, grateful they steered it away from us. These planes are so massive.

Olli Garchy12

A B-52 crash? I already suspected that your armed forces were operating at their limit, but I had no idea you’d let things get this bad…

Tami10

I live here. This is huge because it NEVER happens

Mike9

Good lord there’s nothing left!

aggravatingbobcat.bsky.social8

The last B-52 was built in 1962. The YOUNGEST B-52 is 64 years old.

Milhouse the 25th8

This is horrible. There’s nothing left? No chance for the pilot to bail.

*Disclaimer, spent some time in the Airforce Pro tip for Fox…there is an alert network on all AF bases that have active runways. They come through very loud speakers. 3 ”bells” is an in flight incident…like an odd reading on one of the instruments. 2 bells is an in flight emergency…

h0pe4dfuture.bsky.social7

Horrifying for the family and other soldiers. Hope we don't discover maintenance has been neglected for savings.

Serendipity7

Let save the blame game for another day And focus on the human tragedy Thoughts and Prayers for everyone at Edward's Air Force Base today

Puer Aeternus Crescit7

Does a low-altitude crash like that normally vaporize the aircraft?

Robin Michaels6

there's nothing left of it

Jaina B (ANTIFA Platoon Leader)6

As someone who served in military aviation, I can not stress how far officers will go to put unsafe aircraft into the air because their performance evaluations are at risk. I was a Quality Control / Technical Inspector. I had to tell a colonel "NO, I will NOT remove my red X" and risked retaliation

Ray Aune6

So I saw this then immediately had to verify with Stars and Stripes. Not that I don't trust you, but I trust Fox News as far as I can throw my house.

Happening Again5

How the hell did that happen? What is up with planes having severe issues under this regime?

The Gazster5

Hegseth giving a press conference claiming the crash is due to shoddy maintenance during the Biden admin in 3..2..1..

Neon Nomad 🇨🇦5

Oddly, I was just watching and Insta video about a Russian heavy bomber crashing. Weird coincidence.🤔

Albany Cheshire4

It seems like there has been an increase in military jet incidents. www.cbsnews.com/news/fighter...

Anything Hegseth & Chump does is a disaster

needmoresleep19.bsky.social4

More U.S.military mishaps under Hegseth.......

Andrea Is Sick of Long Covid3

Expect more of this, since trump/Hegseth have decided that Palantir/AI should be integrated into the Pentagon's systems. Our tax dollars at work.

auntieranty.bsky.social3

Horrible. May they be at peace.

Wolfgang VonMockery3

They need to get Hegseth out of there while we still have some air assets left.

djr1015.bsky.social3

They’re pushing our military to the limit! Placing an incompetent Fox News host in charge was done intentionally!

Dave Millar3

Welp, there goes another $84 million dollar plane. Yet e we can’t afford to provide healthcare to everyone.

Rap Bastardz®2

Those are pretty cheap, right?

David Seibert2

God bless the air crew that was in this plane.

Ken Goodman - PNW2

Not bad for a plane that's at least 64 years old. But, you'd think mothballing would be less dangerous.

Brandon Cutlip2

How many stratofortress have we lost this year?

The man from Planet X2

I don’t want to pin this on Pete Hegseth, but actually, I really do.

Dan2

Not sure of the data but just seems a lot of planes keep crashing with this administration 🙃

rhonnie-72.bsky.social2

Where is the wreckage? I see a burned area, surely that would not have incinerated the entire framework, engines, & structure of a flying fortress. So, where's the wreckage?

F*ckThatGuy2

Has Hegseth blamed MLK yet?

Mr Chris2

Completely destroyed. This type of thing doesn’t happen with the Air Force. How many families will have lost loved ones. This is a tragedy.
