Ukrainian drones strike Kapotnya oil refinery in Moscow

newsJun 16, 2026323,213

On June 16 Ukrainian drones struck the Kapotnya oil refinery in Moscow's southeast, igniting fires while Russian air defenses engaged and Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported no casualties. The attack set the ELOU AVT-6 primary processing unit ablaze and sent heavy smoke over the Kapotnya district. Kapotnya processes about 12 million tonnes of petroleum products per year and supplies roughly 35 to 40 percent of fuel for Moscow and the surrounding region. Coming after earlier May attacks on the same facility, the strike threatens Moscow's fuel availability and shows Ukraine can reach strategic energy infrastructure deep inside Russia.
