ICE removes detainee protections after contractor outreach
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released new federal detention standards Monday that removed or weakened specific detainee protections after private outreach from its top contractor, the GEO Group. The revisions narrow oversight of detainee work programs and relax rules on transferring detainees, including language that affects where and how detainees can challenge custody in federal court. GEO Group privately sought several of the changes, and the agency's revisions may reduce the company’s legal exposure in lawsuits and administrative complaints tied to detention operations.
Sounds a lot like skirting the constitutional prohibition on involuntary servitude by paying $1/day & claiming that immigration detains volunteered to do that www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
Right wingers in the South (and elsewhere) miss having slaves so much. I don't believe this is how the USA is going to become a better country.
For profit prisons should not exist in the United States 🇺🇸 Privatization of government functions including public education, roads and bridges, prisons, probation management and drug enforcement should never generate profit for anyone.
GEO is still fighting this decision. Oct 27, 2021 Private Prison Operator GEO Group Must Pay Detained Immigrants Minimum Wage for Work, Jury Rules
This is of course abjectly and overwhelmingly unconstitutional. 13A states: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
“Slavery” is also named in the exclusion clause in the 13th Amendment. as punishment for a crime. However, I don’t believe anyone in the ICE concentration facilities have been convicted of a crime by a judge and jury.
It’s part of the plan. Bring back slavery. The Trump Regime can’t murder every dark skinned person in the country; too much trouble. So why not put them to work for nothing? Builds character. “Work Will Set You Free.”
Had an immigration attorney on here tell me repeatedly that detainees would not be used as essentially slave labor when I commented that eventually detainees would be working in factories harvesting crops etc for slave wages.
I am growing to hate the Republicans who are doing all this more every day.
