Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela within minutes on Wednesday evening, with the U.S. Geological Survey recording an initial magnitude 7.1 followed by a 7.5. The USGS placed the first epicenter west of Morón, about 168 kilometers from Caracas at a depth of 13 kilometers, and recorded the second at a 10-kilometer depth. The quakes collapsed multiple buildings in Caracas and prompted tsunami alerts for coastal areas, creating a high risk of heavy casualties and widespread infrastructure damage across the capital and nearby states.
