Norway vs France, World Cup Group I decider

In Boston France beat Norway 4-1 in the Group I decider at the 2026 World Cup, with Kylian Mbappé starting and Erling Haaland left on Norway's bench. Ousmane Dembélé produced a hat-trick and Désiré Doué added a late header to secure the victory. Dembélé’s treble came in clinical fashion, noted as the second-fastest men’s World Cup hat-trick and described as three shots, three goals. Norway largely used a second-string lineup but still qualify for the knockout round, finishing second in Group I. France topped Group I, completing three wins from three group matches in a major tournament for the first time since 1998. France are set to face Germany in the round of 16. Koundé played 86 minutes for France in the contest.

15yo and I went to watch the France-Norway game on the patio of our local soccer pub and it was just the greatest. We wound up sitting next to this large French-from-France family and they were so hyped to see 15yo wearing his France jacket. They had best energy, getting up and dancing w/every goal.

In World Cup action, all three host nations — Canada, Mexico and the U.S. — are advancing to the knockout round, even though Team USA lost to Turkey late Thursday night. France and Norway are also moving forward. They played each other this afternoon, with France winning 4-1.

Ousmane Dembele vs Norway | #FIFAWorldCup 3 shots, 3 goals, all placed in similar zone, one with right foot and 2 with left. He is so good with shots from that range. It was some explosive performance from Dembele and him on the right makes it all tick much better for France.

The not-Landon Donovan color analyst on Fox’s telecast of France vs Norway said the USSR played in the 1994 World Cup. That country broke up in 1991. There was no Soviet Union completing in the 94 games.
