Judge denies Bruce Lehrmann access to Brittany Higgins documentary footage

Queensland Judge Deborah Richards has rejected former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann’s bid to obtain raw footage from the Brittany Higgins documentary Silenced ahead of his criminal trial. The documentary features Brittany Higgins, whom the judge noted is not a witness in Lehrmann’s Toowoomba case. Lehrmann faces two counts of raping another woman in Toowoomba in 2021, and the trial is scheduled for November 2026. The film’s producers said the documentary will not affect the trial, and the Silenced filmmakers indicated they will seek legal costs from Lehrmann after the refusal. The judge’s ruling keeps the documentary material out of pretrial evidence and removes that avenue Lehrmann had pursued to challenge aspects of the public record before the November trial.
