Explosions rocked Kyiv after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of a "massive strike" and authorities reported ballistic missile and drone assaults across the city. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted that Kyiv was under attack from ballistic missiles and UAVs and blasts were heard across the city; damage and destruction were recorded at more than 30 sites. Ukrainian authorities and multiple reports put the death toll at around 13 with dozens injured, and rescuers were pulling people from rubble at multiple locations including collapsed apartment blocks. Reported weapons used include Shahed and Geran drones and Iskander and Zircon ballistic missiles, and at least one hotel, the Cityhotel Residence, caught fire during the strikes. The attack also damaged humanitarian logistics in Kyiv: a Ukrainian Red Cross hub lost 320,000 aid items and equipment valued at more than UAH 79 million. In retaliation and parallel action, Ukrainian forces struck the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery in Kstovo, damaging a primary oil processing unit and triggering a fire. European Commission figures including Kaja Kallas proposed immediate additional sanctions on Russia following the assault.

A European capital is on fire because Russia spent the night firing missiles at civilians in their beds. Kyiv is full of smoke. People are buried under rubble. This is terrorism.
