62nd anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
OTD in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. Here is a photo of LBJ handing a pen to Martin Luther King, Jr, at the signing ceremony. As the caption says, this was "the strongest civil rights legislation since Reconstruction Days."
on this day in 1964 U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act of 1964. A big step towards equality for all. And we have many more steps to take, even while the GOP seeks to push back against equality and freedom for all.
Republicans will fail in their life long attempt at making America White, and making POC second-class citizens. It’s one thing if you’ve always been enslaved or subjects of a kingdom, but it’s quite another if you’ve always been free. #CivilRights #VoteBlue #ProudBlue #ResistanceUnited
The Civil Rights Act was the second founding of this country. Time for our third act, as painful as that growth is and will be 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
It's been a long 62 years. Hats off to those who continue to see that the Civil Rights Act was but a piece of a journey that continues today. We must fight on.
If they could, this administration would revel in bringing back slavery and removing every advancement women and people of color have made in the last 100 years. 😢
On this anniversary of the Civil Rights Act being signed into law—we're reminded that democracy only moves forward when people have the courage to speak up, & push this country forward. Fight continues today & we'll keep going until every single person in America can live with freedom, & equality!
Democrat politicians need to bring their ideas to improve: Free Higher Education Universal Healthcare Lower Housing Cost Secure Our Individual & Constitutional Right Higher Wages These are the topics, if you have the ideas to improve, should get you elected Oh wait, Impeach the corrupted is a winner
I agree completely that "democracy only moves forward when people have the courage to speak up and push this country forward." This was always true, as it always will be true. It is certainly true right now.
Landmark 🇺🇸 July 2 is the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act signed by President Johnson in 1964 🇺🇸 This landmark legislation outlawed discrimination based on race, religion, sex, and national origin in voting, education and employment. #history #tbt #civilrights 🇺🇸 The Historic Signing
It always amazes me that we need "acts of law" to treat each other with respect and equality!... I wonder just how far we've all come...
It's amazing how a single moment can change the course of history! This legislation was such a huge step towards equality and fairness for everyone. It makes me feel so happy to see how much progress has been made, and how many brave people worked hard for it. It’s like seeing a beautiful butterfly
This is all pat of the big viral change of the coronaviruses and Brexit Boris, which became Brexit during the coronaviruses. It's the usual phasing in 1964 - Civil right act in 1964 - Brexit Boris was born in 1965 - The first coronavirus was discovered ill write it out for you actually
Trump's Supreme Court doesn't seem to think that we have any discrimination today, except white people
how is this different from supporting the 14th Amendment, the Indian Citizenship Act, & Civil Rights & Voting Rights Acts in the US, which reconfigured a White USA as multi-ethnic?
The USA has been "mulit-ethnic" for all 250 years now, not to mention all during colonial and Native Nations times before that. No reconfiguration necessary.
The Union side of the Civil War was the one with institutional continuity with the prewar government. The Confederacy were the traitors. This mattered then and matters now.
This assumes there are large numbers of binationalists on both sides. Does the polling show there are? No? Then what are we doing here?
of course, Stancil is desperate to imply that "the elimination of the state of Israel" is the same thing as the Holocaust.
I mean while these changes were dramatic, they were not generally described as “the elimination of the American state,” and indeed it was the enemies of the 14th Amendment which sought the destruction of the Union. If that language is simply poetic license, Kiros is free to say so!
Nobody with half a brain thinks that the 14th amendment dissolved or destroyed the US state or government. These folks are saying this because they want to see you bend over backwards to engage it in good faith.
Oh come on! The difference is that throwing it open to do this just leads to chaos and violence in the other direction. You can say you don’t care about that, but that’s what’d happen.
Has either side in I-P explicitly committed to policy that would look anything like any of those things? No? Then what are we doing here?
