ICE arrests about 10,000 immigrants in five days

newsJul 2, 2026182,386

The New York Times reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained roughly 10,000 people over a five-day period after the agency roughly doubled its daily arrest numbers. Internal documents and posts cited by reporters say ICE directed about 80 percent of its officers into field operations and set an internal expectation of roughly 2,000 arrests per day, with one recent day detaining more than 2,400 people. The Intercept and lawyers say ICE made at least three arrests inside Manhattan immigration courts last week despite two federal judges issuing orders barring such courtroom arrests. Rep. Dan Goldman said ICE appears to be contravening the New York order without providing a public justification. The surge has prompted lawyers and organizers to raise immediate legal challenges and to mobilize rapid response networks to assist affected immigrant communities. Observers warned the quieter, decentralized campaign is spreading fear in local communities in places from Milwaukee to Western Washington and could reshape enforcement patterns in coming weeks.

🚨 HUGE ongoing surge of ICE arrests, with ICE directing 80% of all officers to go out into the field and round people up, aiming to hit 2,000 arrests a day; which would be more than during the Minneapolis surge. This may be why the nun in Texas got briefly picked up. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/01/u...

I haven’t seen *any* coverage of this and worry people have just become numb (or are too distracted by the World Cup, Knicks, etc.)

Fuck ICE, and fuck you if you support this

Phoenix Calida9

Asking for a friend- I was told we needed this because immigrants are fucking up resources and housing So Do we have verifiable evidence that rent prices have decreased? Or state/local economies are less stressed?

Bare litt info om hva USA holder på med i skyggen av VM. Lett å få dette til mens vi andre følger med på fotballen.

They’re full of righteous indignation about a few DSA primary wins but the goddamn cursed, complicit #democrats are fully MIA on this. And a lot more. And it’s because they are FOR IT. I’m done being suckered & their entitlement is repulsive

Like LA TACO and folks OTG have been saying.

The word "crackdown" is offensive and aggrandizes the pigs or goons who conduct the operation described thus. I propose substituting the phrase "runs amok". As in, "Attacks on Peaceful People Surge to 10,000 in 5 Days as ICE Runs Amok".

It's still going on, and hasn't stopped.

"ICE officers have arrested people at check-ins, with immigration authorities, during traffic stops and on the street." They picked up a tax-paying family guy who builds furniture. People following the law, just working to support their families. The American Dream, but not if you are Brown.

NEW: Federal immigration officials have detained more than 10,000 people in the last 5 days, a major surge that has stemmed from a push at ICE to increase arrests. The WH has wanted more arrests. The expectation inside ICE is 2K arrests a day. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/01/u...

Expect to hear more about this in the coming days, if they keep up this pace.

If this becomes major news, I’d expect to see what you saw in Minneapolis and Chicago, which is major immigrant communities effectively going into hiding. Here, it was economically devastating. Nationwide, it could provoke an economic downturn

Following setbacks in Minneapolis, ICE has changed strategies. Now they are trying to inflict as much suffering as possible without attracting attention. They are escalating right now. We need strategies to confront and impede them—the way people did at Delaney Hall. crimethinc.com/DelaneyStrat...

I can't imagine the soullessness necessary to transform the abduction of thousands of people by a masked secret police force, their disappearance into jails and private concentration camps, and the terrorizing and occupying of communities across the country, into "remarkable operational results."

Speaking anecdotally, this feels very real here in Connecticut. #nutmegsky

It’s really important to think about what you’ll do if you see this happen. Role play it in your mind. Follow different what-ifs. It can help prevent a panic/freeze response when the moment comes.
