England beat Mexico 3-2 at Estadio Azteca to reach the World Cup quarter-finals. Jude Bellingham scored twice, with his second goal coming two minutes after the first, and Harry Kane converted a 60th-minute penalty. England went down to 10 men when Quansah received a red card in the 54th minute but held off a relentless Mexico surge late in the match. Tottenham full-back Djed Spence, who has been wearing a protective face mask after a broken jaw, is set to continue at right-back with Reece James nearing a return to full fitness. England will face Norway in the quarter-finals.

Mexico did the same f... play through the flanks all night long. Then take out the two guys who could turn it around: Quiñones and Mora. Surprise, by the same coach who's led Mexico into defeats on and off for 25 years. "Played like never before, lost like always".

Mexico is out of the 2026 World Cup, falling short in the round of 16 vs England. The effort was there for El Tri, but the ideas weren't. The legacy of this tournament, though, looks like a reparation of the relationship with the supporters. There is a future here, but Mexico needs to nurture it.
