Fans travel worldwide to see Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in IMAX 1570
Nolan knows what's up: "I’ve never seen a more rapid wholesale dismissal of a supposedly foundational jump in technology in my lifetime."
plus, doesn't Damon have a financial interest in an ai company? mfer is pulling a chewlies gum on us.
For real though. I've been around the block 40+ years now. I've seen tech announcements flop (the Segway), I've seen people underestimate tech (the Today Show clip about the internet), but I've never seen something pushed this hard with even 10% this much money behind it meet such a resounding "nah"
glad he has seemingly changed his tune from this article I can’t read so maybe it’s all lies
AI is where IT has wanted to be Forever. Is it there yet? Not yet but it is inevitable. I agree, the speed of evolvement has been staggering and this is the Infancy stage. “There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." Digital Equipment CEO 1977.
AI is dumb. It’s simply inaccurate, and hallucinates to the point of failure. If one has to use traditional sources to verify AI accuracy, then what value does it provide? Also the drain on critical resources such as water, and the acceleration of the climate disaster with heat, is irresponsible.
nolan shot the odyssey in the imax BIG FUCKER format. it only shoots three seconds of footage per reel and it's so loud its legally a 747 airplane. fan are traveling hundreds of miles to see a 45 feet tall tom holland say such epic lines such as "John Odyssey, you are the protagonist of this film"
dumbass racists have a lot to say about this film, and in the interests of fighting the never-ending culture wars, we will make sure you never stop seeing their rancid opinions
They actually invented a new camera to reduce the noise so they don't have to do the Dub over crap. petapixel.com/2026/07/08/i... - So that's cool.
go big or go home!
Saw The Odyssey last night and I’m massively disappointed with the liberties Christopher Nolan took with the subject matter. Absolutely *nothing* on the 1970s New York disco scene. Where was “use it up” or “going back to my roots” on the soundtrack? And Matt Damon made a *terrible* Bill McEachern.
Anyway, I’m obviously not Christopher Nolan because I *would* have soundtracked idk the scene where they set out on the journey back to Ithaca with “Going back to my roots”. It’s right there for you! And it’s a banger. m.youtube.com/watch?v=1qW9...
Waited for the long-promised appearance of Homer with his trademark "Doh!", and nothing happened. What a waste of time.
Here all week, ladies and gentlemen bsky.app/profile/jopr...
I hate the way they whitewash these classical pieces just to remain politically correct and woke. It’s like they’re only interested in the mass market and Oscars.
*Exactly* what I was afraid of
I’m incensed at the casting of Helen of Troy, the actress wasn’t even born from a birds egg.
This may not sit well with “film buffs” but I think if Christopher Nolan really wanted to make a groundbreaking version of THE ODYSSEY he should’ve filmed it at the Citadel Outlet Mall off the 5 in Commerce
We need some more transit-oriented 70mm film IMAX. 4x time penalty to see THE ODYSSEY in its native format versus driving.
(@musicboxtheatre.bsky.social is showing it in regular 70mm which is spectacular, and is right by the L!)
I'm just renting a car for the day lol. If it was a direct trip of even one transfer I'd deal with it but it's a bunch of transfers to low frequency suburban routes
We need an IMAX in the city I’ll fight for it
