Nolan screened three classic films for The Odyssey cast before shooting
Christopher Nolan Recalls Building Fully Practical Tom Holland For ‘The Odyssey’ https://theonion.com/christopher-nolan-recalls-building-fully-practical-tom-holland-for-the-odyssey/
Saw The Odyssey last night and I’m massively disappointed with the liberties Christopher Nolan took with the subject matter. Absolutely *nothing* on the 1970s New York disco scene. Where was “use it up” or “going back to my roots” on the soundtrack? And Matt Damon made a *terrible* Bill McEachern.
Anyway, I’m obviously not Christopher Nolan because I *would* have soundtracked idk the scene where they set out on the journey back to Ithaca with “Going back to my roots”. It’s right there for you! And it’s a banger. m.youtube.com/watch?v=1qW9...
Waited for the long-promised appearance of Homer with his trademark "Doh!", and nothing happened. What a waste of time.
Here all week, ladies and gentlemen bsky.app/profile/jopr...
I hate the way they whitewash these classical pieces just to remain politically correct and woke. It’s like they’re only interested in the mass market and Oscars.
*Exactly* what I was afraid of
I’m incensed at the casting of Helen of Troy, the actress wasn’t even born from a birds egg.
Outraged at the ways Nolan has vandalised The Odyssey: - characters speaking English instead of ancient Greek - depictions of monsters that are not even real - use of film cameras, which historians increasingly agree would not have existed at the time - worst of all, he's changed Journathan's name
What I hear/see whenever I hear a variation of the name Jonathan
This got me thinking about how they’re gonna have to translate it into Greek. For Greece. Which seems dumb but here we are.
The cameras thing is contentious. Yes, their film industry was primative, but they had animation- using urns painted with scenes they would very rapidly juggle to give the impression of movement. Smashing pottery is still part of the culture.
