Remco Evenepoel won the Stage 16 individual time trial in Thonon-les-Bains, the only time trial of this Tour, covering 26.1 kilometers and beating race leader Tadej Pogacar by 28 seconds. Mattias Skjelmose finished third on the stage, 1:04 behind Evenepoel. Evenepoel said the victory was "a big misfortune. It is a bittersweet victory," and wished Florian Lipowitz well after Lipowitz suffered a heavy crash during the effort.
