The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 in Friday’s series opener as Romy González delivered a pinch-hit go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the eighth. Anthony Seigler went 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and two RBIs, falling a triple short of the cycle. Patrick Sandoval escaped early trouble after an error and two walks in the first, and Seigler’s leadoff homer gave Boston an early lead. Willson Contreras had multiple awkward slides and was checked by trainers, but interim manager Chad Tracy said “He’s OK.” The win extends Boston’s hot run: the Red Sox have won 21 of 24 games since June 25 and are an MLB-best 16-2 in July.
