In the second inning of Friday’s Angels vs. Giants game at Oracle Park, Michael O’Brien caught a foul ball while cradling his toddler. Wade Meckler drove the foul off a Logan Webb pitch at 82.1 mph into the second-deck seats and O’Brien made a backhanded, bare-handed grab while keeping his son out of harm’s way. O’Brien told MLB.com his thought was, “Shield him from the ball and make a play.” He said this was not his first foul ball; he recalled catching one hit by Yasiel Puig in 2014 and said he has been playing baseball for 30 years. MLB highlighted the clip, which captured the protective, athletic moment.
