Met police spent £2.5m hiding spycop from former partner
The continuing claims by the police that all this is the work of a "rogue unit" or a "few bad apples" are yet more lies piled on top of 50 years of lying. The state surveillance, state rape and state cover-ups are institutional and systemic. It's not over. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Whenever someone talks about a 'few bad apples' I remind them of what happens to the whole barrel in the second half of that saying.
£2.5m of our money, that could have been spent on fighting crime, not covering it up
How did a 'rogue unit' manage to access £2+ million of budget to hide and relocate one copper? Who signed off on that budget? This goes to a very senior level and some of these people need prosecution. Won't happen though- see Hillsborough, the Beanfield, Orgreave...
in 1917 Alice Wheeldon and her family, antiwar activists, were framed by undercover agents and imprisoned. My great grandmother.
"at least 25 UK ‘spy cops’ had sex with deceived members of public" and the police force went to enormous lengths to cover it up. The police are a state-sponsored grooming gang.
Makes you wonder how the state is now currently spying on peace activists……
don't think non-Brits have been following the Spycops scandal, but it's nuts; not only was the government spying on entirely peaceful and legal activism , cops were regularly forming relationships with activists including in some cases fathering children. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
they also spied on the family of a murdered black child.
Hey I was one of the people they spied with. I lived with an undercover cop for around a year.
One of the main things I took away from Seamus Milne's book about the 1984 miners strike in the UK, was that Thatcher just had to pick up the phone to get MI5 involved. The state machinery was all in place, ready to go
How many times has that happened?
this is like something out of hoover’s fbi jesus christ
If the full truth of what happened during The Troubles ever came out, a lot of reputations would be rightly destroyed and a lot of other people would have to go into hiding in case their “former comrades” visited www.google.com/url?q=https:...
Every British public inquiry takes a few weeks to investigate the actual events, then needs several years to unravel the massive cover up operation that tried to hide them.
This drives me so fucking batty. What do you mean you did deep undercover work on fucking environmentalists to the point of even having children with them? What the fuck? Why was this a better use of police resources than literally anything else?
A footnote to this is how this protracted, abusive deception itself encouraged much darker forms of radicalism. It's no secret that Helen Steel's subsequent career as an extreme anti-trans figure—including claiming trans people are CIA plants—is connected to the psychological fallout from all this.
