President Nicușor Dan said a Romanian Air Force F-16 shot down a drone at 10:13 local time over Romania's territorial waters in the Sulina, Chilia area. Authorities issued an alert in Tulcea county because fragments from the downed drone could fall. Moldova President Maia Sandu expressed solidarity, calling the incident another Russian violation of Romanian airspace and praising the Romanian pilots. Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu said prosecutors identified the drone shot down on Friday as a Shahed used by Russia in its war against Ukraine and that investigations into the drones downed yesterday and today are ongoing. Țoiu said Romania will base its diplomatic démarche to Russia on the investigation results and announced the Russian ambassador was summoned to the foreign ministry. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said Romania and its NATO allies would respond firmly to these provocations. The Ministry of Defence reported that since the start of the war in Ukraine there have been more than 100 Russian attacks near Romania and 33 unauthorized airspace incursions, underscoring continued military pressure on Romania's eastern border.
