Stanley Kubrick remembered on his birthday

July 26 marks Stanley Kubrick’s birthday; social posts and filmmakers are posting tributes and clips citing his birth on July 26, 1928 and death on March 7, 1999. A recent episode of the podcast Thief's Monthly Movie Loot featured film scholar Nathan Abrams and a deep dive into Kubrick’s work, covering the Overlook Hotel, Vietnam-set sequences, the infinites of space, Abrams’s Top 5 Kubrick films, and timed segments listed in the episode notes. Press and essays resurfaced a notable pre-Peter Jackson curiosity: proposals to adapt The Lord of the Rings that once included The Beatles in a version considered for Kubrick. Fans and outlets also pointed to retrospectives and curated releases, with at least one post promoting a complete Kubrick box set scheduled for October. Posts quoted Kubrick lines and highlighted career totals commonly cited in tributes, including his 12 feature-length films and 13 Academy Award nominations, and noted that he would have been 98 this year.
