UEFA to hold emergency meeting over FIFA World Cup stake sale plan
Scotland’s appearance at the World Cup this year shows exactly what the competition should be all about - the fans. The idea that it could be sold off to private investors is unacceptable and I support UEFA’s action today. FIFA need to abandon these plans now. The World Cup must not be for sale.
On the day Scotland played in Boston, we had people all over the city in kilts, and we Bostonians loved the good spirit. I hope you all had a great time here and you'll be welcome in the future. ☺️
two dreams I have UEFA world cup and Count Bin Face beating Farage
FIFA should be shut down regardless, and replaced with an institution with guardrails to prohibit corruption.
But actually UEFA should not just threaten. They ought to to team up with some of the vital non-European teams to make a new World Cup without corruption and political shit.
I too agree that things that should belong to the people should not be sold off to private interests.
💯. This is just about Infantino lining his pockets and why everything needs to be about that parasite Trump is beyond me. UEFA have got this just right! Thank for supporting!
This statement by UEFA on FIFA attempting to sell off the World Cup gave me goosebumps, what a statement - the beautiful game deserves no less “As so long as Europe has a voice, it will never be for sale.”
Infantino furiously googling ‘moral authority’.
Another Trump like figure grifting off of the World Cup.
FIFA needs UEFA way more than UEFA needs FIFA. Without European teams all competitions instantly become meaningless.
Restrained fury, reflecting the feelings of millions of footie fans and clubs. Great letter.
Yes. Let Argentina, Israel & USA play one another.
Excellent and a strong Fuck you to Infantino and his circus
So European nations wouldn't participate in a World Cup under these circumstances. That much is clear. But what if European clubs didn't have to release their players for a privatised World Cup? Feels like that would surely be fatal even if UEFA pullout wasn't...
Resisting tyranny and corruption is on all of us. Good job, UEFA.
Welcome to the resistance <checks notes> UEFA *Ode to Joy plays*
Today in ‘everything Trump touches, dies’
UEFA: “Football’s future cannot be dictated by the expectations of those whose first duty is to maximise financial return.” ECB: “Hey billionaires, can we interest you in buying a quarter of our playing season? Do what you like with it, no need for it to be cricket!”
I didn’t think one of the most honourable European defence of multilateralism against power grab by intimidation would come from our football federation, but here we are and UEFA deserves credit for it.
I'm not THAT interested in football, but this is uncompromisingly good. More than that, it serves as a model statement-type for similar situations, like attempts to privatise the NHS or to open up unexploited oil fields.
I actually wasn't expecting this much backbone. You love to see it though!
> As a result of today's discussion, no UEFA national teams will participate in any FIFA competition for so long as these proposals remain alive > Some things are simply too important to sell. The FIFA World Cup belongs to football. And so long as Europe has a voice, it will never be for sale.
Neue Zölle gegen die EU in 3 … 2 … 1 … Ich mag das Statement sehr. Wünschte mir die gleichen Eier und Klarheit von der EU bzgl. der Regulation der Plattformen und Durchsetzung des DMA und DSA.
UEFA has just unanimously decided to boycott both men's and women's World Cups over FIFA's attempt to sell the global game to private equity. Damn.
The full statement from UEFA is remarkable. Members vow not to participate in FIFA competitions unless the entire proposal is scrapped and assurances are made it is gone for good.
This is great! And I get that the move happened post cup. But also there was plenty to boycott before this world cup happened.
It’s the smart move. Turns the World Cup into LIV golf. Once the World Cup has become devalued, then some other big non-Europeans may also join Morocco, Egypt etc from Africa plus Japan S Kor. Unknown how strong the countries in the Americas would be but Arg and USA would follow Infantino into hell.
This is the way. And not just in soccer or sports in general. Refuse to play, and close the door on ever again dealing with those who've shown themselves to be corrupt, be it in their financial dealings or their values. Tell FIFA you'll talk only when someone else is in place. Create deterrence.
They should also be calling for Infantino to self-immolate for being party to such treachery. He’s unworthy to be the steward for international futbol
Good. Now discard FIFA all together. It is beyond reform.
Would be more than a bit awkward if two hosts of the 2030 men's World Cup—Portugal & Spain—boycotted the event. And it would be a downright crime against joy if the 2027 women's World Cup was sacrificed on the altar of FIFA greed.
The funny thing about "FIFA mistakenly thinking that people who like soccer actually like the FIFA™ brand" is that this JUST HAPPENED a few years ago with their fight with EA Sports, and FIFA got their bluff called successfully, and yet FIFA has seemingly learned absolutely nothing
I do actually love to see this. If it's time to destroy FIFA. The argument has been made that Infantino will get this through by bribing the less wealthy associations, but a World Cup without European teams isn't really a World Cup. It's something, but it's not a World Cup.
Well that's one hell of a "go fuck yourself Infantino" from UEFA. Imagine your predecessor being **Sepp fuckin Blatter** and being even more corrupt and horrible than he was in the position of FIFA President.
Mr Slaphead Has a Bad Day
"Football unites the world." amirite?!?!?!?!
Today in high-on-your-own supply. My god, this guy.
Truly incredible for UEFA of all orgs to be on the right side of any story. Truly incredible levels of corruption to make that happen
enslaved labor, racism, athleticide/genocidal participants/etc... all should've been been lines drawn for boycott, not only capitalism, but at least there is finally a line, ig 🫠
Infantino firmly lodged in Trumps arse and a Kushner being involved in the private equity group makes this all look corrupt af. If UEFA don't make a stand we're heading for the game being controlled by the greediest, dumbest fuckers on the planet
BREAKING 🚨: UEFA & all 55 member nations BOYCOTT FIFA! Europe unanimously rejects Gianni Infantino’s secret $20B deal to sell World Cup stakes to private investors led by Joshua Kushner (Trump/Kushner family ties). The World Cup is NOT for sale! www.uefa.com/news-media/n...
Trump is behind this. He poisons everything.
Yes!!! Banishment remains THEE WAY!!!!
Shades of the LIV Golf fiasco which was a failure
A grift foiled? Please let that be a fact not just a wish.
Why does that family have to ruin everything?
Good for them. Out with the corruption
The investor group seeking a stake in FIFA is led by Joshua Kushner, the brother of Jared Kushner That means the brother of a member of Trump’s family is now at the center of a potentially massive deal involving one of the most valuable sporting events on the planet All the Kushners are Criminals
GOOD because these fuckers made the tickets to enter the Azteca Stadium so fucking expensive that only the wealthy and foreigns could go to watch the games, and left the mexican people out. It was no longer sport, it was business.
This is solidarity in fighting the corruption of the international billionaire class. Thank you UEFA for the courage to stand up to this!
*UEFA BOYCOTT TO HAPPEN IF FIFA PROCEEDS WITH SALE PLANS:SOURCE Full reporting here: www.thetimes.com/sport/footba...
I'm excited for Trump to destroy FIFA as well. Will UEFA create a UNIVERSE CUP?
Gianni Infantino is making himself as popular in Summer 2026 as cyclospora and data centers.
If it’s true that AFC, CONCACAF, and UEFA are against this what was the plan? CAF, CONMEBOL, and OFC don’t make much.
Making UEFA look like the good guys might be one of Gianni Infantino’s most impressive accomplishments
UEFA RUN ITS OWN WORLD CUP WITH JUST EUROVISION CONTESTANTS
Infantino is nuts. His Instagram response to criticism after the Cup was fully deranged. Love to see the pushback.
Occasionally cold wars turn hot.
Don’t threaten us with a good time
UEFA should stage its own tournament and invite South American and countries from other confederations to participate
Hey maybe then USA could make out of the R16 [runs away]
Football Manager diehards will be replicating this in the game editor as we speak.
Lets just start our own world cup, without Fifa.
corruption is only bad if i'm not involved
UEFA Nations have agreed to boycott the World Cup if FIFA/Infantino goes ahead with their plan to sell a chunk of it www.independent.co.uk/sport/footba...
Oh, not just the World Cup. ALL FIFA competitions. Love to see it.
It just keeps getting better. "As a result of today’s discussion, no UEFA national teams will participate in any FIFA competition for so long as these proposals remain alive" Not even 'goes ahead' - just the proposal is still live.
The FIFA Women's u20 World Cup starts in September. Won't have long to wait to see if UEFA actually have the guts to do this.
Infantino should resign with immediate effect
This is the way 👏
"Unanimously and unequivocally". Well done UEFA! A swift and perfectly aimed kick in the unmentionables for Trump's pathetic little poodle. The self-satisfied smirk wiped from his face. No VAR required! Sport is still about more than*just* money. At least for now... 🤔 share.google/ZhTII5nXxJ9E...
It's a small step, the complete abolition of FIFA and it's replacement with an actual democratic system with oversight and no money should be the goal
Let's hope the other governing bodies follow suit.
A dirty filthy man with dirty filthy proposals with other very dirty filthy people.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino is proposing to sell a minority stake of up to 20% in a new commercial subsidiary (modeled by Formula One) that would run the World Cup and other tournaments. 🧵
External investors — backed by Joshua Kushner's Thrive Capital (Jared’s younger brother) — would own up to 20%. Infantino set a September 19 deadline offering member federations up to $40M in funding if they approve.
Let me guess. The new co-owner will rhyme with "Dasha".
Is there any way to invade Infantino and liberate football?
why would you sell off the one asset you have? Instead of getting 100% of the profits, you have to share with an entity that is going to demand more and more over time.
Uefa meeting is 2pm UK time tomorrow - boycotts will be discussed It’s already been raised how the same threat was used to kill Fifa’s plan to have a Russian team in the World Cup after Ukraine Also idea of EU/EC removing Fifa’s antitrust law exemptions www.independent.co.uk/sport/footba...
Needs sanctions for European associations voting against this Blacklist all players from countries that want to take Infantinos bribes. Ban all their players from all football in any of the top 15 tiers in each member country.
I'm SO sick of Infantino. I'm sure this idea came from Trump's camp. Both are completely corrupted, no breaking news!...
I can't help feeling that if we do see a splitting from FIFA, we'll end up with something like superleague where UEFA and CONMEBOL (and maybe CAF but their relationship with FIFA is complicated) can run their own intercontinental football competition.
Interesting that even UEFA itself considers boycotting a valid tactic. All the more reason to continue all our pressure to kick Israel out of international football while they continue their genocide against Palestinians. #stopthegames
BREAKING: UEFA sources tell talkSPORT all 55 Member Associations have decided to boycott the men's and women's World Cups in protest at Gianni Infantino's Fifa Forward Enterprise plans. UEFA members agreed on an emergency call today that they will not support any FIFA-run tournament.
Good on UEFA to draw a hard line in the sand. Happy to see this level of pushback to FIFA’s ridiculous plans to sell private equity stakes in the World Cup.
This is great. Other federations need to follow suit.
Going back to football - UEFA's next set of demand should be centered around a clean break from Infantino regime - FIFA needs to fire him into oblivion.
Of all the federations UEFA is the most powerful and can stop this from happening. Good luck having a world cup without Spain, France or England.
When we all cheer for UEFA you know FIFA is really really really bad
