Brendan O'Carroll, 70, the creator and star of the sitcom Mrs Brown's Boys, has cancelled the planned 2026 Christmas and New Year specials because he needs surgery for two fractures to his mandible. O'Carroll said a CT scan found the two jaw fractures and that he will have "immediate surgery" followed by a few months of recovery. He also confirmed the festive Mrs Brown's Boys D'Panto? stage shows in Dublin and Killarney have been postponed with the aim of rescheduling in 2027. O'Carroll said he has been "talking with the BBC about getting Mrs. Brown's Boys back on the screen in 2027" and thanked production company MCD and the BBC for their support. The long-running comedy, filmed at BBC Scotland studios in Glasgow and starring O'Carroll as Agnes Brown since 2011, has won multiple comedy prizes at the National Television Awards. A BBC spokeswoman said the corporation wishes O'Carroll a full and speedy recovery and is working with him on plans for 2027.
