Brendan O'Carroll, 70, the creator and star of sitcom Mrs Brown's Boys, has cancelled the planned 2026 Christmas and New Year specials after a CT scan found two fractures in his mandible that require immediate surgery and months of recovery. O'Carroll said in a statement that filming will not go ahead and he is focused on getting back to full health, adding that he hopes Mrs Brown's Boys will return in 2027. He also postponed his festive D'Panto? stage shows in Dublin and Killarney and aims to reschedule them for 2027. The show, filmed at BBC Scotland studios in Glasgow and first broadcast in 2011, has won multiple comedy prizes at the National Television Awards. A BBC spokeswoman said the corporation wishes O'Carroll a full and speedy recovery and is working with him on plans for 2027.
