Australian former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios, 31, has been provisionally suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency after a sample he provided at an event in Spain on June 22 tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. The ITIA said the provisional suspension has been in place since August 4, 2026, and is mandatory because cocaine is banned in competition under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme. Kyrgios posted a lengthy statement saying he had made "a huge mistake," took full responsibility, and will step away from social media and public life for 28 days. The agency confirmed Kyrgios has the right to appeal but had not filed one as of the ITIA statement. Once a top 15 player who reached the 2022 Wimbledon final, Kyrgios has played only four singles matches this year and is ranked 919th. He received a wild card to play doubles at Wimbledon this year and lost in the first round. The provisional suspension bars Kyrgios from competition while the ITIA investigates and any formal sanctioning process proceeds.
