The New England Patriots traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans, per Tom Pelissero of The Ringer. New England received safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round draft pick in return. Boutte, 24, joined the Patriots as a sixth-round pick in 2023 out of LSU and had requested a trade this spring during a contract year. He finished his Patriots tenure with 38 combined regular-season and playoff appearances, catching 87 passes for 1,327 yards, a 15.3 yards-per-catch average, and 10 touchdowns. Boutte showed clear development over his second and third seasons and became one of quarterback Drake Maye’s favored targets before the move. New England’s receiver room now lists A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism at the top of the depth chart. The trade follows offseason additions of Brown and Doubs that created the roster logjam prompting Boutte’s request to leave.

Steal for Houston. This is a better WR than the one they're replacing. This feels light for NE with pick as a '28 7th. Yea, the depth at WR makes this more palatable, but one more year of Boutte feels more valuable than this.

He's very good in contested catches, but at the end of the day, he ended up with 33 catches over the entire season in a WR room that wasn't very deep.

On one hand, I could see Kayshon Boutte being a fun fantasy sleeper. On the other, I could also see Xavier Hutchinson taking more playing time away from Boutte then what would be ideal. Also, a trade for Boutte can't be the best sign for how Tank Dell is looking.
