Cal Raleigh hits three homers as Mariners rout Phillies

Cal Raleigh hit three home runs Monday night, powering the Seattle Mariners to a 9-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. The switch-hitting catcher recorded the first three-homer game of his career, starting with a two-run blast off Phillies starter Zack Wheeler in the first that capped a five-run inning. Raleigh added a leadoff homer against Wheeler in the fifth and a solo drive off reliever Chase Shugart in the seventh. He finished with three hits and a walk, and his night pushed his season total to 17 home runs while lifting his batting average from .159 to .167. The Mariners totaled five homers in the game, and Raleigh’s outburst was described in the article as a breakthrough after a prolonged slump. Last season Raleigh led MLB with 60 homers and 125 RBIs and finished runner-up in American League MVP voting.

Took a look at what Cal Raleigh was doing at plate & it all looked the same except his approach was off. I suggested maybe just being aggressive on the outer third of the zone, and his three homers last night were outer third. Cal could turn it around on a dime: www.nytimes.com/athletic/753...
