Blue Jays Place Shane Bieber on 15‑Day Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays placed starting pitcher Shane Bieber on the 15-day injured list with right teres major inflammation, retroactive to August 21, and recalled right-hander Chad Dallas in a corresponding move. Manager John Schneider said Bieber will be shut down from throwing for two weeks and then reevaluated, and Schneider expressed hope Bieber can return before the end of the regular season. Bieber had delivered two strong recent starts, holding the New York Yankees to one run over six innings on August 14 and limiting the American League-leading Tampa Bay Rays to one run over seven innings in his next outing. On the season Bieber is 5-2 with a 4.53 ERA across 11 starts. Dallas was recalled for his fourth stint with Toronto; he made his major league debut on June 4 and has an 8.22 ERA over three appearances this year. The move comes amid a string of injuries to the Blue Jays pitching staff, including Trey Yesavage, Patrick Corbin, Jameson Taillon, Cody Ponce, and Jose Berrios, while Taillon is scheduled for a Triple-A rehab start Friday and reliever Yimi García will not pitch this season after thoracic outlet surgery. Toronto entered Tuesday’s series against the Kansas City Royals 64-68 and two games back of the final American League wild-card spot.
