Top Gear to return after Andrew Flintoff crash

The BBC has confirmed that Top Gear will return to TV four years after the show was rested when co‑host Andrew Flintoff was badly injured in a 2022 filming crash. Flintoff suffered serious facial and rib injuries after the open‑topped three‑wheeled Morgan Super 3 overturned at Top Gear's test track; he has said he was dragged face‑down under the car for about 50 metres and told a Disney+ documentary "I thought I was dead." The programme has been off air since 2022; at the time Flintoff presented alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris. The BBC has not announced the new hosting line‑up; The Sun reported comedian Jimmy Carr was in talks and former rugby player Joe Marler has also been linked, but the BBC declined to confirm talent. BBC director of entertainment Ed Havard told the Edinburgh TV Festival that the show is coming back but would not discuss specific hosts. BBC Studios will make the series and has not commented further; the corporation apologised and paid compensation to Flintoff after the crash. Racing driver Paul Rees, who was in the car with Flintoff, is suing BBC Studios for up to A150,000 for personal injury and the company says it is defending the claim.

Only if he is sacked from his current job, and ideally does something more rural. I don’t listen to #TheArchers to hear about cars. That’s what Top Gear was for (which I never watched, because I care about cars almost as little as I care about the Royal Family.)

Perhaps it might be a good idea to go back to the days when Top Gear was presented by experienced motoring writers instead of celebs who like cars. And even then give them high speed track driving training.
