Mookie Betts' three-run homer lifts Dodgers, completes sweep

Mookie Betts delivered a three-run go-ahead home run in the eighth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Washington Nationals 7-5 to complete a 6-0 season series sweep. The homer provided the Dodgers' 41st comeback win of the year and capped a stretch in which Los Angeles has won nine of 10 meetings against Washington dating to April 9, 2025. Justin Wrobleski made a spot start, recording six strikeouts through three scoreless innings before allowing four runs on eight hits and departing after the fourth; the Nationals tied the game earlier on a CJ Abrams leadoff homer and a two-run double by Harry Ford. Trailing 4-1 in the fifth, the Dodgers chipped away via Tommy Edman’s RBI double, an RBI single by Will Smith, Freddie Freeman forcing additional damage with a grounder, and a Teoscar Hernández infield single that tied the game. Bobby Miller, making his first appearance for the Dodgers this season, threw three innings with one run allowed and earned the win; Kyle Tucker robbed Ford of a potential homer in the eighth. Washington now shares the MLB record for most blown saves in a season with 37, while Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Shohei Ohtani is expected to return to the lineup as a hitter but is unlikely to pitch in 2026.
