Patriots Day Freedom Fest, a Kentucky event scheduled for September 26 in Morning View and headlined by Kid Rock and Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter," was canceled days before showtime after organizer Eric Deters said only six $1,000 VIP packages sold. General admission and parking had been advertised as free, but Deters planned to fund the event by convincing roughly 100 people in his circle to buy $1,000 VIP passes, a plan that would have raised about $100,000; the six sales generated roughly $6,000. Deters announced the cancellation in a Facebook video and declared, "I am never ever, ever, ever, ever doing this event again," while also criticizing the wealthy contacts he expected to support the festival, saying, "rich people, as a whole, suck." Advertised speakers included Fox News contributor Joe Concha and Rep. James Comer alongside musical acts; previous Freedom Fests had drawn thousands and combined speakers with live music and fireworks. The cancellation adds to a rough year for Kid Rock, whose Rock the Country shows offered discounts of up to 50 percent, saw multiple lineup departures, and whose off-stage controversies this year included a U.S. Army Apache helicopter incident that prompted an administrative investigation and an appearance on Jesse Watters where his use of an ableist slur drew an open letter from Special Olympics official Loretta Claiborne. With Deters saying he will not attempt the event again, the festival is scrapped and organizers will not proceed with the planned September 26 gathering.
