That tackle on Nathan Cleary is just what happens in contact support. The hip drop rule is pretty stupid in that way, because in every tackle, as the tackler, your body moves with the momentum of the person you're tackling. You don't get to control that. It's not like a chicken wing.
Possum6The hip drop rule, as it exists now, means every time you tackle someone and slide down your grip from their torse to their legs, you roll the dice for illegality. Maybe if we had less CTE in the games adminstrators, we'd be recommending widespread headgear use instead of hip drop rules.
