World champion Lando Norris apologised to Franco Colapinto after saying the Argentine should be banned for causing a crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Colapinto locked up at the restart after a safety-car period, slid into Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly and then Gasly hit McLaren driver Norris, leaving all three retired. Colapinto told reporters he was "sorry" for his "big mistake," and Norris initially told BBC Radio 5 Live, "Give him a ban. It's quite simple." In an Instagram message Norris said he was wrong to make those comments, that emotions were running high, and that he had messaged Colapinto to apologise. Norris added that they had reached a good understanding, remained good friends and were "both excited to get back racing this weekend." Colapinto received a 10-second race penalty which, because he had already retired, was converted into a five-place grid drop to be served at the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend in Malaysia.
