The Dallas Cowboys agreed to trade for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cowboys announced Wednesday night. Dallas is sending a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to Pittsburgh, NFL Network reporter Jane Slater and NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported. Multiple insiders including Tom Pelissero tied the move to a prolonged contract standoff between Porter and the Steelers; Schultz reported Dallas does not plan to sign Porter to an extension immediately. Porter, 26, is in the final year of his rookie deal after being a second-round pick in 2023 out of Penn State and has not played this season amid a back injury and conditioning designation. Porter was ruled out for Pittsburgh’s Thursday game against the Cleveland Browns after practicing limited on Wednesday following full participation Monday and Tuesday. Coming off his best pro season in 2025 with 14 passes defended and one interception, Porter is expected to bolster a Cowboys secondary coping with injuries as Dallas is allowing 27.3 points per game this season. Pittsburgh and Dallas have now completed three trades since 2025, previously exchanging George Pickens in May 2025 and Broderick Jones in August 2026.
